Wheellock Guns

For anyone interested in Wheelock guns, I recommend the 1982 book- Hans Schmidt von und zu Helding, Der “Kunstreiche” Büchsenschäfter von Ferlach (um 1600-1669) by Bruno Thomas.

Following are images of an early 17th Century Wheel-lock rifle made by Ferdinand Sidler of Spital am Phryn. It is Courtesy of Johann Springer’s Erban Auction House in Vienna.

The following introduction to the subject of the Wheel-Lock gun is from Claude Blair’s 1962 book European & American Arms.

On Oct. 15, 2013 the James D. Julia Inc. auction co. sold a splendid group of High Art Wheelock weapons collected by Dr. Douglas Sirkin. The following images from that Auction Catalog are courtesy of the Julia firm.

The following images are from the May 19, 2022 Joh. Springer’s Erben auction, lot no. 301. It is a 12.5mm Wheelock rifle 70 cm long. It is speculated that it was an old reconstruction of a hunting wheelock in the style of the 17th Century using antique parts. © Joh. Springer’s Erben Handels GmbH, Wien

The following book Firearms from the collections of the Prince of Liechtenstein by Stuart W. Pyhrr is a splendid referance. The copy I have at my disposal is sadly in black and white with less than good detail. To see a copy in full color with great detail, go to Google Books and google the title. It is worth the effort to see the images in full color.
